Hanna was planning another trip home this weekend. Her grandma was going to be visiting and she didn't want to miss out on that. Her grandma was awesome. Planning involved deciding which clothes to pack and if she should bring the kitten to meet her. She could swear the cat was using her powers of adorable to persuade her mama to bring her along.
"Maybe," she sighed.
That would have to wait, though. Her thought process was interrupted by her cellphone ringing.
"Hanna, are you sitting down?" It was Emily on the other end.
Hanna sat on the edge of her bed. "Yes? What now?"
"It's Mona..."
Emily went on to explain that she was released from Radley Sanitarium and returned to Rosewood High. "We didn't want to tell you at first, but...you have a right to know. I told Spencer and Aria this. I also agreed to be the one to tell you."
Hanna just stared at her phone as if she heard the worst news ever. "But how?"
"It's been nine months," Emily sighed. "I guess they think she's better now."
Hanna was not so sure. "Just more reason I'm glad I don't go to school there anymore."
She wondered how it was possible Mona was allowed back to the same school with the girls she terrorized. Of course, the police didn't exactly have the whole story. Would it have mattered anyway? Hanna never trusted the Rosewood Police.
"Thanks for telling me, Em," Hanna said appreciatively. "Just let me know what's she's up to?"
"Trust me, we'll be keeping an eye on her," Emily assured.
"I can help some this weekend. My grandma's visiting, so I'll be around."
"Cool. We miss you here, you know," Emily said sincerely.
Hanna smiled. "I know. I miss you all, too."
She hung up after a few more minutes.
The uneasiness she was feeling wasn't going away any time soon.
