Rosewood, Pennsylvania - Saturday

Hanna had been home since Wednesday. Basically, she was kind of stuck in Rosewood at this point. She wouldn't be alone, at least.
Aria decided to attend Hollis College, right in the heart of town. Hanna figured it was to be near her boyfriend Jake...or perhaps her ex Ezra. Either could be true at this point.
Spencer was off to an Ivy League school. Shocker, that. Emily was going to a local state school. Unfortunately, she'd been injured and lost out on a swimming scholarship to Stanford. She was trying the long distance thing with Paige, who had gotten into Stanford.
Hanna would stick around until she figured out what to do with her life. Maybe she'd attempt community college, at least. She could try a fashion institute, too, but she knew she'd have to work hard for it. She was willing to. Maybe next semester. Caleb had also deferred for the semester, so he was around to keep her company.
She was around to continue dealing with Rosewood's brand of weirdness, of course. It started almost immediately when she returned home. She found an envelope stuffed with cash, lots of cash, in her mailbox. It had not been addressed. Someone stuffed it in there without mailing it. A note was written on familiar looking stationery telling her something about how her family could use it. What?
Hanna didn't trust that money. It had 'A' written all over it. One reason she felt that way? It was stationery from CeCe Drake's boutique. Also, she wasn't sure how it would help free her mom from the stupid ankle lock.
Yesterday, she figured out who had given her the money. She noticed a cute guy staring at her at The Brew. What was so exciting about her latte anyway? She walked over to him and straight up asked if he sent her the money. Surprisingly, he came clean about everything...including information he had that could exonerate her mother. Travis was his name. He saw her mother leave the vicinity of the crime before the gun shots had been fired. After giving him an earful about staying quiet this whole time, she relented a little when he explained his own family had bad dealings with Detective Wilden. He was afraid they'd get in trouble.
The money had been left in his truck weeks ago. Hush money he supposed. Hanna was in complete agreement, especially if it was from 'A.'
She begged him to tell the police all of this. It wasn't fair of him to keep quiet knowing an innocent woman could go to prison for life...or worse. He agreed.
That would be why, at this moment, Hanna and Caleb were at the police station. Her mother had been brought in to stand in a police lineup so Travis could identify her as the woman he saw leaving.
There was a catch to all of this. 'A' made sure of that. She sent the four girls a message. If Ashley went free, 'A' would unleash war on them. They were all in agreement that 'A' could bring it. They'd survived this long. Neither were willing to allow Ashley to go to prison for a crime she did not commit.
Hanna anxiously paced, waiting for her mom to return from the lineup. When she did, Hanna was only slightly relieved. Now came the part where they waited for the law to determine if Ashley could go free. She didn't mean to, or maybe she did a little, but she listened to her mom and Caleb talk. He made sure she had a cup of coffee.
"Thank you," Ashley told him, taking the cup.
"Don't thank me, yet," Caleb replied. "They probably made it yesterday."
"Not for the coffee," Ashley clarified. "For the way you've taken care of Hanna. I don't worry about her as much when she's with you."
"Mrs. Marin, you didn't deserve any of this," Caleb said quietly. "But I've watched the way that you've handled it. Hanna never settles. When she goes after something, she's fearless. Now I know where she gets that."
"I've had my moments, I promise you," Ashley admitted.
"But you didn't break."
"You know, Caleb, after all we've been through," Ashley continued. "You can call me Ashley."
Hanna couldn't help smiling at that. It was nice that these two very important people in her life got along so well. She remembered the days when her mom didn't trust Caleb. Now he's one of the few people she does trust. Especially with Hanna.
After a few more agonizing moments, the district attorney exited a room in the police station. First she apologized to Ashley about the mix-up. Then she told her she was free to go and all charges had been dropped. Hanna let out a loud squeal of happiness before giving her mother the biggest hug ever. She then nodded at Travis, the smile on her face evident of how thankful she was. She couldn't remember the last time she was this happy or that her smiles were genuine.
This was a great day. Ashley even wore her best dress to go out on a real celebratory date with Ted. The girls were all there to see her off. Aria, Emily, and Spencer were just as happy as Hanna was. This felt like a win for once. The news even agreed with them as there was an announcement that the police had new leads on Wilden's actual killer: CeCe Drake. So now, even Mona was free since her confession was thrown out. A definite win...
...until a present arrived just after Ashley left. It was a box, apparently empty. But then Spencer started geeking out about it being a magic trick. She even found a hidden mechanism of some sort that opened the box, revealing a fake saw with an invitation to a magic show in a nearby town called Ravenswood. Written in red. Signed by 'A.'
"She couldn't let us celebrate for one night?" Emily said, clearly exasperated.
"Of course not," Hanna sighed.
"When has she ever let us celebrate anything?" Spencer replied.
"A big giant never," Aria added.
So it looked like the girls would have one more mission together tomorrow before they dispersed. It would be sad if there wasn't the possible torture, death, and mayhem.
[from 4x11 "Down Goes the Hoe" and 4x12 "Now You See Me, Now You Don't"; I feel I have to point out there was an actual hoedown in that first episode, which didn't make it into this catch up. Too bad because it was awesomely terrible.
Also, I took a few liberties about what the college plans are for the Liars. They're still seniors in high school in PLL timeline, so I had to make things up. Though everything is based on hints throughout the series of what their plans would be. There will be a conclusion post tomorrow.]
