Room 425, Wednesday Evening

Hanna had tried not to think about Parents Weekend too much and how disappointing it was shaping up to be. Her mom had just called to let her know she wouldn't be able to make it this weekend. Work had gotten crazy busy. She promised to make it up to her, which probably meant a shopping trip in Hanna's near future. Still, she wished her mom could be here since she was the only parent who even considered it.

Maybe it was time for Hanna to try to reach out to her dad. She knew he probably didn't want to hear from her after the disastrous non-wedding, but she had to try.

"Hi Dad," Hanna began, her voice shaking a bit as she started her message. Of course it went to voicemail. "I know I'm, like, the last person you want to hear from, but...I'm sorry...about everything. I didn't mean to..."

She paused, taking a breath before continuing. "I'd rather tell you all this in person, so...whenever you're ready, let me know. Talk to you soon."

She hoped. She was prepared for more disappointment, though.

Rapunzel had plenty of muffins left over from her morning baking spree. And she brought some with her when she came back to the room for the evening. "Hey," she called with a smile, "would you like a muffin?"

And then she saw the expression on her roommate's face, and her smile slipped a bit. "Are you okay?"

"Sure, they look great," Hanna said, reaching for one. She studied it for a moment. "My parents won't be here this weekend. But it's okay."

Hanna could see her mom anytime. She knew Rapunzel didn't exactly have that luxury.

"Aww, I'm sorry," Rapunzel said. Because she knew how sad that could be! "Is there anything I can do to help?" Nothing came to mind, but she felt like she had to ask.

Hanna smiled. "Nah, I'm fine. These muffins help. You're really good at baking."

It wasn't why she'd baked them, but knowing that muffins were something that could help cheer her roommate up, even a little, made Rapunzel smile. "Thank you. I'm glad you like them."

She ducked her head slightly. "There are more in the common room if you want some." In case the plate of them wasn't enough.

"I'm sure they are awesome, too," Hanna said, taking a bite. "I'm good with this one, but thanks. Not just for the muffin."

"It would be pretty awful of me to repay all your kindness with anything but the same," Rapunzel pointed out with a smile as she set down her plate and stepped over to reach out and give Hanna's shoulder what she hoped was an encouraging squeeze.

Hanna was appreciative of the support from her roommate. It made things a little better and easier to deal with.

"Hey! Maybe we can do something fun? Just the two of us, I mean!" Since it sounded like neither of them would have visitors.

"That sounds good, though maybe after this weekend," Hanna suggested. "I may have friends coming to visit. If so, you'll have to meet them."

"Oh, that'd be fun!" Rapunzel declared excitedly. "I bet you know some really interesting people!"

"They definitely have their moments," Hanna added.
