new_it_girlHanna felt like her time in Rosewood was just as strange as being in Fandom when there was rain of food or some other oddity. Meeting with her friends at night in secret at a creepy greenhouse was almost the norm for her lately.
She arrived, grinning as her friends appeared as well...including Emily. She was smirking and looking a little smug. It was a good kind of proud smug.
"Think 'A' bought it?" Spencer asked, smirking as well.
"You two should win Oscars for those performances," Hanna replied. "For a moment, I forgot you were pretending."
"The hair pulling was a nice touch," Aria added, snickering.
"I think the text message from 'A' I received soon after is proof we got to him...her...whatever," Emily explained, showing the message to the others.
Hanna read the first sentence out loud. "'You were always my favorite.' I feel like I should be insulted by this."
She wasn't.
"Well, don't be," Emily told her. "Being the favorite is not exactly reassuring. But, 'A' is willing to negotiate with me. I was told to await further instruction in a few days. So it's worth being the favorite, I guess."
Spencer nodded. "So was the detention we received."
"Aww, you both took one for the team," Hanna said, smiling. "Now maybe we can kick some 'A' ass by getting the upper hand. I'm tired of that bitch."
"Amen," Emily added. "Now, we just gotta keep this going a little longer."
"Guess I have to keep bringing out my inner Ali," Spencer said, frowning slightly.
That was both a compliment and an insult to Alison, who was the best mean girl in the history of Rosewood as far as Hanna was concerned. Best wasn't always a good thing in that case.
"We go about our business until then," Aria said, interrupting the silence Spencer's comment brought on.
"I'll head back to school tomorrow," Hanna said. "When the new instructions come in, I'll get back here ASAP."
"Good plan. We have to continue our normal lives so 'A' doesn't suspect anything." Spencer looked at each of them intently. "We've got 'A' right where we want her. Or him. We can't screw this up."
Hanna was going to be focused. Anything to bring down their professional tormentor. This had to end.
