Hanna turned her mp3 player on and grabbed one of her fashion magazines. A cup of coffee sat on her night stand. Her goal was to use these things to distract herself. She was trying not to think about the latest Rosewood event happening right about now.
She didn't want to think about the funeral for someone she hated. The other girls were attending because 'A' sent Spencer a message claiming one of their secrets would be revealed in Wilden's casket for all of the Rosewood attendants to see. Hanna didn't think she needed to travel the two hours to be there. She hated Wilden. She didn't feel she needed to pay her respects. Maybe that was terrible of her, but she didn't care. The man made her life hell. Or added more hell to her life. Whatever.
Apparently she cared a little bit. The coffee was untouched and she'd been on the same page of her magazine for a half hour.
She was so lost in thought, she jumped when her buzzing phone startled her. She glanced at the I.D., revealing that it was her mother calling.
"Hello?" Hanna said into the phone.
"Hanna?"
Hanna blinked in confusion. "Spencer? Why are you calling me from my mom's phone?"
"This is your mom's phone?" Spencer sounded equally confused. "This was the secret in the casket, Hanna? We got to it before the funeral started. Your mom's phone was in there with him."
"What?" Hanna said slowly. What was her mother's phone doing with Wilden.
"When was the last time you talked to her?"
"Wehandwavily talked yesterday," Hanna explained, her voice shaky.
"That's good then, she's okay," Spencer replied.
"I'll be home this weekend," Hanna told her friend. "Just...can you keep the phone until then? I'll ask her about it when I get there."
"Sure," Spencer replied. "Hanna, just...don't worry, okay? We'll keep an eye on her until then."
"Thanks," Hanna said before hanging up.
How could she not worry? Why the hell was that particular phone with Wilden? Hanna almost didn't want to ask about it. She almost didn't want to know. She could go home at any time, really. She needed the next few days to figure out how to bring this up.
Hanna's thoughts were louder than she wanted them to be. She turned the music up, hoping to drown them out for awhile. Was she ever going to find peace again?
