Hospital in Jersey, Tuesday Evening
Hanna didn't leave Caleb's side much. She'd gone home to shower and change, but that was about the only time she left.
He'd been awake since yesterday afternoon and seemed to be doing well. Luckily nothing important was damaged like vital organs. He was probably going to be released soon enough.
"You should go back to school," Caleb told her. "I'm gonna be okay."
"Please, like I care about school right now," Hanna scoffed.
"You should," Caleb said tiredly. "Look, my mom will be around. Once the doctor says it's okay, I'm gonna go home and she's going to take care of me. I won't be alone."
Hanna wanted to protest. How could she leave when part of this was her fault for dragging him into this mess? Though she had to admit, staying with his mom was probably the best thing for him. "That's actually a good idea."
Caleb smiled. "I thought you'd put up more of a fight."
"Don't think I'm not going to call every day and nag you," Hanna said, grinning. "And I will be back this weekend."
Unless something wacky happened like turning into a child or something.
"I wouldn't expect anything else," Caleb chuckled. "Even though you'd be bored taking care of me."
"I don't care," Hanna sighed. "Part of this is my fault and..."
Caleb reached for her hand. "It's not your fault, Hanna. Nobody's fault but one guy and Emily took care of that."
He sounded proud. "I'll live."
"Well, you'll be my mom's favorite person when I tell her you talked me into going back to school," Hanna told him.
He smirked. "Good to know."
Hanna was glad everything seemed to be okay, at least for a little while.
